Management and Managers
The labour market was stationary in 2002 and 2003 but is now showing clear signs that things are changing. According to José Caetano Silva, Managing Partner of Talent Search Portugal and Spain, “we are witnessing a recovery in recruitments and movements of executives, at this moment the hiring of these executives as a result of business developments is already apparent.”
Due to a period of stagnation caused by the economic crisis, turnover in the market slowed down. For José Caetano Silva this was reflected in an accumulation, over of the last two years, of anxiety and stress in the sector, since many companies were required to retain people who did not want to stay. For Silva, this anxiety is one of the factors that can explain the number of responses received by BMW.
He believes that another reason for this large number of responses is the recruitment method used by this company. “Portugal already deserves the use of the executive search method for key companies and executives, as it is already the case in Spain”, and he adds that the “BMW recruitment does not reflect the Portuguese market, because it is a specific case of bad methodology.” José Caetano Silva thinks that the method used by BMW chooses from among those who want to work for the company and using the executive search method it is the company that chooses who it wants to work for it.
