Another headhunter, José Caetano da Silva, Managing Partner at Talent Search, admits that careers are restricted by the destination chosen by each professional. “When we are faced with a proposal”, he says, and warns that changes should be influenced by the idea that each one of us has of our own future. “We should really change for a concept. Those who know what a career is, change for concepts and not for salaries”, he adds. And the concept, what is it? It is not a case of rigid planning of the future, but rather a safe awareness of what one intends to do and what one clearly does not want.


 MOTIVES AND PRECAUTIONS


 “It is important not to be dazzled”, stresses José Caetano da Silva, from Talent Search. When approached by other companies, professionals should hold their own and “take the time necessary to do their homework.


 They should investigate the position offered through formal and informal means, asking for references about everything that is decisive for them”. And clearly understand their own motivations. “We should know what seduces us. Whether it is the work environment, leadership, family balance, problem solving and technical field, or room for manoeuvre for enterprise, for example”. After this exercise, they should consider the scope of their commitment and ask themselves: “Am I strong enough to embrace this project? And what do I want in exchange?” According to José Caetano da Silva, “the return can also be the pleasure of the job, the good working environment, more free time. Each person has to calculate their own return”.


 Another important point: do not expect to be promoted through recruitment. José Caetano da Silva guarantees that there are “many people who say that they will only leave to go higher, but that is stupid”.
